Switch on a bot, or build an agent?

Support platforms now ship capable AI agents. If your answers live in a help centre and your team already works in that platform, switching one on is often the right move. Here is where it stops being enough.

Short answer

Use a chatbot SaaS tool (for example Intercom Fin, Zendesk's AI agents, Tidio, respond.io or ManyChat) when most questions are answered by your help-centre articles, you already use that platform, and the bot doesn't need to act in other systems. Have an agent built when it must read and write across several tools (calendar, CRM, order system, back office), follow approval rules, work across WhatsApp, phone and email, or keep data in your own accounts. Oravel builds from €3,900 per system excl. VAT.

When a SaaS chatbot wins

Choose them if…

An off-the-shelf bot is the sensible first step for a lot of teams.

Your questions are mostly answered by existing help-centre articles
Your team already lives in Intercom, Zendesk or a similar platform
The bot only needs to answer and hand off, not change data elsewhere
You want something live this week and can accept the vendor's limits
When Oravel fits

Choose us if…

These are the signs you've outgrown a switch-on bot.

The answer depends on live data in another system (calendar, PMS, order system, back office)
The bot must do things, with approval rules, not just answer
You need one agent across WhatsApp, phone, email and web, in Arabic or Dutch
Per-resolution fees are becoming a large line on your bill, or data must stay in your accounts
Ask any supplier

Questions worth asking.

Ask any SaaS vendor: what counts as a billable resolution, what happens to your conversation data, and what the bot can do outside their platform.

Ask any builder, including us: who maintains it after launch, what it costs each month at your volume, and whether you could switch it off and keep the code.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can you build on top of Intercom or Zendesk instead of replacing them?

Yes, and we often do. Your team keeps its inbox; the agent connects the platform to the systems it can't reach on its own.

Is a custom agent always better?

No. For help-centre questions on one platform, a SaaS bot is usually faster and cheaper to start. We'll tell you if that's your situation.

What about ManyChat for Instagram and WhatsApp?

It's a good tool for marketing flows and simple replies. For bookings, back-office lookups or regulated hand-offs, a built agent gives more control.
