Home / Compare / Oravel vs DIY with Zapier or Make

Do it yourself, until you shouldn't.

Zapier and Make are excellent tools, and we use them too. For simple, low-risk workflows, building it yourself is the right answer. Here is where that stops being true.

Short answer

Build it yourself with Zapier or Make when the workflow is simple, low-risk and you have someone who enjoys maintaining it; you'll pay only the tool subscription. Have it built when the workflow needs AI to read and decide, touches customers or money, needs approvals and logs, or breaks often enough that nobody trusts it. Oravel builds on these tools or on custom code, from €3,900 per system excl. VAT.

When DIY wins

Choose them if…

DIY is the right call more often than you'd think.

The workflow is a simple trigger-and-action between two or three apps
Nothing customer-facing or financial happens without a person
Someone on your team likes building and maintaining automations
A failure would be annoying, not costly
When Oravel fits

Choose us if…

These are the signs a DIY automation has outgrown its builder.

The workflow needs AI to read emails, documents or chats and decide what to do
It touches customers, payments or personal data
It has broken silently before, and nobody noticed for days
The one person who understands it is busy, or leaving

Questions worth asking.

Before you build: write down what should happen when the automation fails, who is told, and how you would know.

Before you hire anyone: ask whether they would build it in Zapier, Make, n8n or code, and why. A good answer depends on your volume, data and who maintains it.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do you build in Zapier and Make?

Yes, when it fits. We also use n8n and custom code. We choose based on volume, cost, data sensitivity and who will maintain it.

Can you take over our existing Zaps or scenarios?

Yes. We review them in the audit, keep what works and rebuild what doesn't.

What about n8n?

n8n can be self-hosted, which helps with data control and cost at volume; it also needs someone to run the server. We use it where those trade-offs fit.
